Worship

Man’s chief and highest end is to glorify God, and fully to enjoy him forever.

Westminster Larger Catechism 1

Worship stands at the very center of man’s created purpose. From eternity to eternity, all things are from Him, through Him, and to Him (Rom. 11:36). Missions, ministry, and daily obedience all exist because worship does not yet fill the earth as it ought. The Triune God has created and redeemed a people for His glory, that they might know Him, delight in Him, and ascribe to Him the honor due His Name.

Because God is the object of worship, He alone determines how He is to be worshiped. In the Westminster tradition, this is expressed in the Regulative Principle: the acceptable way of worshiping the true God is instituted by Himself and limited by His revealed will. Christian worship must therefore be shaped by Scripture, in doctrine, devotion, and doxology, not by human invention. Central to this biblical pattern is the singing of Psalms, the inspired songbook of the Church, which teaches us how to praise, lament, rejoice, and hope in Christ. Here you will find resources to help ministers, sessions, and congregations in reverent, Word-governed, God-centered worship.
